Threads of the Sea
Research on how weavings and screenprinted textiles behave in their interaction with the North Sea.
Several hand-, jacquard woven and screen printed textiles have been placed on different locations along the Dutch coast.
In the production of the textiles the design had been inspired by materials and the visual language of the North Sea and its surroundings. In some cases the material used has been collected on the beach.
The tides, seawind and life in the salt water have transformed the pieces in their form and fibres. Some have dissolved, others have disappeared completely. Some have interacted with the growing of algae and barnacles.
This project has been made during the 3rd Bachelor Textile Design at KASK School of Arts Ghent.
